Highway to Hell is the sixth studio album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC , released on 27 July 1979. It was the band's fifth internationally released album and the sixth to be released in Australia. The album was produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange and was recorded at Compass Point Studios in the Bahamas and Electric Lady Studios in New York City. The album became the band's first album to break into the top ten of the Billboard 200 chart in the United States, eventually reaching number 17. It was also the first AC/DC album to be certified gold by the RIAA. The album contained the band's first hit single "Highway to Hell". according to Steve Huey of AllMusic, Highway to Hell had a "raw, unrefined power" that was missing from the band's previous two albums. He also praised the guitar playing of Angus Young and Malcolm Young, who he said were "not just spectacular, but inventive and tasteful".Dave Ling of BBC Music said in a retrospective review that Highway to Hell was "an absolute classic" and "the album that announced AC/DC as the best rock'n'roll band in the world".
