Karel Ancerl (1908-1973) patřil spolu s Václavem Talichem k tandemu dvou předních českých dirigentů 20. století. Protože drtivou většinu svých nahrávek pořídil pro Supraphon a protože se blíží třicáté výročí jeho úmrtí, rozhodla se tato firma uctít Ancerlovu památku velkoryse koncipovanou řadou reedicí jeho tvorby pod společnou hlavičkou Ancerl Gold. Série má zahrnovat celkem 42 titulů, z nichž každý projde komplexní studiovou úpravou a zefektivněním. Při jejich vydání je doprovodí odborná hudební dokumentace i erudované historické a estetické studie a samozřejmě také bohatý fotografický materiál.

Ančerlova kariéra byla úzce spjata s Českou filharmonií, s níž od roku 1950 působil osmnáct sezón. Aniž bychom v nejmenším podceňovali nesmírné zásluhy Václava Talicha a Rafaela Kubelíka na definování interpretačního stylu České filharmonie, lze říci, že Karel Ancerl byl prvním českým dirigentem skutečně světového formátu a že svůj orchestr dovedl k suverénní virtuozitě a mezinárodnímu věhlasu. Jeho umělecké výkony byly dokonalým spojením promyšlené koncepce a pečlivé práce s detaily; byly vždy podloženy jak detailní znalostí partitury a schopností vystihnout každý aspekt její architektury, tak vytříbeným citem pro styl, ohromnou zvukovou představivostí a v neposlední řadě obdivuhodně sdělným gestickým jazykem. Ancerl skutečně dokázal svůj orchestr přesvědčit o správnosti svého přístupu, což je v dirigentském umění snad nejpodstatnějším předpokladem úspěchu.

Mimochodem, v Ancerlově éře došlo v nahrávacím průmyslu k převratným krokům ve vývoji nahrávacích technologií, včetně vynálezu LP desky a následného obrovského rozšíření nahrávacích projektů orchestrů. Ancerlovy brilantně inspirované nahrávky se brzy dočkaly náležitého uznání v podobě prestižních mezinárodních ocenění. Jejich aktualizované reedice na formátu CD od té doby stále oslňují posluchače svou technickou dokonalostí a naprostou zvukovou krásou.
