The film was directed by Paul Dugdale, known for his work on Adele's Live At The Royal Albert Hall and The Prodigy's Worlds On Fire. Live 2012 also features footage from Coldplay's concerts at the Stade de France in Paris, Montreal's Bell Centre and of course their triumphant performance at Glastonbury in 2011. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin comments, "The 'Mylo Xyloto' tour was the most fun we've had as a band so far. From start to finish we've had nothing but positive experiences; partly because we're proud of the music, then the crowd action with the LED wristbands, pyrotechnics, lasers and all the trappings, but mainly because of the incredible crowds we've played for. Over the years, our audiences have become more and more of a regular part of our shows. The people may be loud and different, but their hearts are in it and they make the songs sound so much better than we could have done on our own. We wanted to try to bring that indescribable feeling to film, so to speak, and that's why this film was made." Director Paul Dugdale adds: "We wanted to make a film with intimate and epic moments that showed Coldplay's colourful performances alongside candid portraits of the band. The set is compiled from various concerts around the world, with the highlight being a concert in front of 75,000 fans at the Stade de France in Paris. JA Digital and I wanted to approach this film in the same way Coldplay approached their stage show: the film is ultimately about the people, and we wanted to highlight how the band manages to blur the line between stage and audience every night, creating an experience that speaks to every attendee from the front row to the back of the stadium. 90 minutes on the full scale of emotions. My main goal as a filmmaker is to open the audience's eyes and get their pulse racing."
