Adrenaline is the debut studio album by American alternative metal band Deftones , released on October 3, 1995 by Maverick Records. After forming in 1988, the band recorded a demo tape called "Lunchbox" and distributed it around the local music scene. A copy of the cassette was given to Maverick Records A&R representative Mark Kates, who signed the band. The band began recording the album Adrenaline in 1995 with producer Terry Date at Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, California. The album's musical style is rooted in alternative metal, but also contains elements of heavy metal, hardcore punk and noise rock. The album's lyrics are often dark and introspective, with frontman Chino Moreno addressing topics such as addiction, self-harm and depression. Upon its release, Adrenaline was met with mixed reviews from music critics, but was commercially successful, debuting at number six on the Billboard 200 and selling over one million copies in the United States. The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
