When Eric Clapton swapped his usual Stratocaster for a Martin acoustic guitar in January 1992 and recorded the now legendary Unplugged album, he was already considered the absolute master of the electric guitar. On the live album, the legendary guitarist played acoustic versions of his own songs and some blues standards with a small backing band. Upon its release that year, the album became an undisputed hit, selling 19 million copies worldwide and winning six Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
