Change doesn't mean abandoning the old It's no secret that Foals like to experiment with different genres. Already on the first three albums it was difficult to classify them into a certain musical genre: Indiepop, techno, mathrock, ambient, minimal - with each album new influences were added. "What Went Down" is the band's hardest album yet. But that doesn't mean it doesn't have different musical demands. By their own admission, this album is also the Brits' most popular release. Overall, they remain true to their sound. However, the title and opening track "What Went Down" already makes it clear: Foals are back and they mean it. Hard guitar riffs, pulsating drums and singer Yannis Philippakis who jumps between singing, screaming and yelling - many indicators of explosive indie rock. So for the recording sessions, the band enlisted the help of someone who knows exactly how to do it: James Ford, himself a seasoned indie rocker who has produced the Arctic Monkeys and Klaxons in the past. With him, they went to the south of France for two months at the beginning of 2015 to the studio "La Fabrique", where Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds had already recorded their album "Push The Sky Away". If you want to excite both the objective listener and the long-time fan of your music, you have to create something new while staying true to yourself. Foals prove that this is possible with the release of "What Went Down".
