Katie Melua's winter concept album The first notes sung in Ukrainian make it clear that Katie Melua's new album "In Winter" is no ordinary pop album. And indeed, behind the seventh LPm album of the Georgian-British singer-songwriter is a very special concept this time. First of all, Melua had the vision to make a winter album. Sooner said than done. But beyond that, she was accompanied by the 24-member Gregorian Gori Women's Choir. The singer heard this choir for the first time two years ago and was immediately impressed by the diversity of its sound. For the arrangement of the vocal parts in the song "In Winter", Melua engaged the world-renowned British choirmaster and composer Bob Chilcott. Katie Melua and the Gori Women's Choir recorded a total of ten songs for the new album, a diverse mix. For example, the opening "The Little Swallow" is a Ukrainian folk song from 1916, followed by a rendition of Joni Mitchell's "River." The singer also composed several of her own songs for the album. One of them is "Dreams On Fire", the first single from the album "In Winter". In writing the song, Melua was assisted by none other than Don Black. For the first time in her career, the thirty-one-year-old singer also participated in the production of the album - together with sound engineer Adam "Cecil" Bartlett. Whether it's the idea or the song selection, Katie Melua's new album "In Winter" follows an exciting concept. Even more compelling, however, is the realization. The result: finally, an album for the winter months.
