The album's lead single, "The Human Factor", became a moderate hit and reached number 21 on the Mainstream Rock chart. The album Blessing in Disguise was well received by critics and later ranked 488th on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

The album opens with epic guitar lines and a glistening performance from Mike Howe, making "Fake Healer" a remarkable track and one of the best songs the band has ever released. Other highlights include the powerful and cathartic "Anthem to the Estranged" and "The Spell That Can't Be Broken". Both bands offer the excellent guitar work that has distinguished Metal Church throughout their careers.
