Midnight Oil: The Makarrata Project LTD versión en vinilo LP en de edición limitada edición. Esta edición en concreto se lanzó en Europa en la editorial Sony Music el día 5. febrero 2021.
Product information The Makarrata Project was produced by longtime collaborator Warne Livesey, who also contributed to the legendary albums Midnight Oil, Diesel & Dust, Blue Sky Mining and Capricornia. The Makarrata Project is a themed mini-album of collaborations with Indigenous artists. Midnight Oil will donate its share of the proceeds from this release to organisations that seek to uplift The Uluru Statement From The Heart in particular and Indigenous reconciliation more generally. After centuries of struggle for recognition and justice, the 2017 Uluru Statement called for the introduction of a 'First Peoples' voice' enshrined in the Australian Constitution and the establishment of a 'Makarrata Commission' to oversee deal-making and truth-telling between governments and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Clearly, this mini-album has finally come to be relevant in a way that no one could have predicted, as the Black Lives Matter movement is growing rapidly around the world and renewing local attention to Aboriginal deaths in custody. However, The Makarrata Project was actually recorded late last year after the band regrouped for a European tour. They came into the studio with about twenty songs, seven of which revolved around themes of reconciliation, and so decided to record this batch of material separately with a number of Aboriginal collaborators (the rest of the new recordings are due out in 2021). The Makarrata project will be the latest in a long line of reconciliation initiatives that Midnight Oil have supported. These include the legendary Blackfella/Whitefella tour of remote Australia with The Warumpi Band in 1986, which inspired their worldwide hit "Beds Are Burning", an international tour with Yothu Yindi, the Burning Bridges project and the hijacking of the closing ceremony of the Sydney Olympics, when the Oils controversially performed in outfits emblazoned with the word "Sorry", increasing the pressure in the campaign to apologise to the Stolen Generation. Midnight Oil say, "We've always been happy to lend our voice to those calling for racial justice, but we really feel we've reached a tipping point. We urge the Federal Government to take the message contained in the Uluru Statement to heart and act accordingly. Hopefully the mini-album The Makarrata Project that we have produced with our First Nations friends will help shed some more light on the urgent need for genuine reconciliation in this country and in many other places as well."
