After touring in support of their previous album, 1992's Badmotorfinger, Soundgarden took a break to write new material. The band began recording Superunknown in early 1993 at Studio D in Sausalito, California. Recording the album was an arduous seven-month process. Superunknown features a more experimental sound than previous Soundgarden albums, with songs on the album ranging from hard rock to acoustic ballads. Superunknown was well received by music critics and became the band's most successful album, reaching number one on the Billboard 200 chart and selling more than five million copies in the United States. Five singles were released from the album: "Spoonman", "The Day I Tried to Live", "Black Hole Sun", "My Wave" and "Fell on Black Days". The album Superunknown has been certified platinum by the RIAA five times in the United States and has sold over nine million copies worldwide. The album was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album in 1995. In 2009, it was ranked #336 on Rolling Stone magazine's chart. Álbum abarca todos los géneros Rock y Alternative rock.
