Siamese Dream is the second studio album by American alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins , released on July 27, 1993 by Virgin Records. The album was produced by Butch Vig and recorded at Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin from October 1992 to March 1993. Siamese Dream was the band's breakthrough album and became a commercial success when it debuted at number ten on the Billboard 200 chart. The album spawned four singles - "Today", "Cherub Rock", "Disarm" and "Rocket" - which reached the top twenty on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. The Smashing Pumpkins recorded Siamese Dream with producer Butch Vig, who had previously worked with Nirvana on its breakthrough album Nevermind. Vig helped the band capture the sought-after grunge sound while incorporating elements of psychedelic rock and shoegaze. Billy Corgan said he wanted the album to be "The Wall for the 90s", a reference to Pink Floyd's 1979 double album. The album's themes deal with various personal issues, including depression, drug addiction and suicide. Corgan credited Vig with helping him cope with these issues and getting them off his chest.
