The album was a commercial success, reaching number 18 on the Billboard 200 chart and selling over three million copies in the United States. The first single from the album, "We're Not Gonna Take It", reached No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the fan favorite anthem of the group, known as "The Nation of Twisted Sister ". Other singles from the album, "I Wanna Rock" and "Burn in Hell", also achieved moderate success. The album's title track, "Stay Hungry", is a heavy metal song written by the band's lead singer Dee Snider. The song is about the American Dream and the importance of never giving up, a message that Snider firmly believes in. In an interview with Songfacts, Snider said: "The American Dream is still alive. It's not about becoming a millionaire. It's about being able to achieve your dreams, no matter how big or small they may be. And if you stay hungry, the dream is still alive." "Stay Hungry" is the third album by hard rock legend Twisted Sister, originally released in 1984. The album features two of their biggest hits - "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock"; as well as the brilliant power ballad "The Price". There were tracks like "The Beast", "S. M.F." and the massive "Burn In Hell" that lifted the hearts of loyal fans and showed the true power of Twisted Sister. It remains an irony of fate that the band's mainstream success disappointed heavy metal fans and "Stay Hungry" was the beginning of the end for the band. At the time, however, Twisted Sister was still the talk of the town. The New York veterans scored a touchdown.
