The album Sweet Freedom, released in 1973, is the sixth studio album by Uriah Heep . The album was recorded at the Roundhouse Studios in London and produced by Gerry Bron. It was the first album to feature John Lawton on vocals, and the last to feature Ken Hensley on keyboards. The album reached number 13 in the UK Albums Chart and was awarded a British Phonographic Industry silver certificate. The album spawned two singles, "Stealin'" and "Free Me", both of which reached the UK Singles Chart. The album was praised by music critics. Bruce Eder of AllMusic awarded the album four and a half stars out of five, stating that "Sweet Freedom is one of Uriah Heep 's best albums and one of the best hard rock albums of the early 1970s". The album cited several hard rock and heavy metal bands as influences, including Iron Maiden, Metallica and Guns N' Roses.
