It was the band's first album to feature John Lawton on vocals, and the last to feature Ken Hensley on keyboards. The album reached number 12 in the UK Albums Chart and was awarded a Silver Certificate by the British Phonographic Industry. The album Wonderworld was recorded at Roundhouse Studios in London and produced by Gerry Bron. The album includes the singles "Wonderworld", "The Wizard" and "Stealin'". The Wonderworld album was generally well received by critics. Eduardo Rivadavia of AllMusic gave the album four stars out of five, calling it "a classic album in every sense of the word". He praised the "dense, muscular and melodic" songwriting and called Lawton's vocals "perfectly fitting". The Wonderworld album was remastered and re-released in 2006 as a two-disc set, containing the original album and a bonus disc of live recordings. Reedice sedmého studiového alba Uriah Heep na 180g těžkém LP. Album "Wonderworld", vydané v roce 1974, je posledním albem s baskytaristou Garym Thainem. Ten byl po nahrávání z kapely propuštěn a o rok později zemřel na předávkování heroinem. Bylo rozhodnuto nahrát album v Mnichově a kapela se záměrně přesunula mimo vyšlapané cesty. S neblahými následky: všichni členové kapely se během nahrávání pohádali a v pracovních podmínkách bylo obtížné album dokončit. S ohledem na tuto skutečnost nepřekvapí, že hudba je o něco těžší než u předchůdce "Sweet Freedom".
