Její mladí skladatelé Andrew Lloyd Webber a Tim Rice se díky ní proslavili.

Toto vydání ji vrací do doby, kdy tyto bašty establishmentu byly ještě přísně undergroundové a spolupracovaly s crème de la progressive rock v londýnských Olympic Studios.

Původní Jesus Christ Superstar měl jen málo společného s Fantomem opery nebo Chessem; sešli se v něm současní nebo budoucí členové levicových londýnských kapel jako Grease Band, Soft Machine a Fairport Convention. Ian Gillan se brzy proslavil jako zpěvák skupiny Deep Purple.

Toto přelomové vydání, sestavené ve spolupráci Andrewa a Tima, obsahuje nový remaster původního dvojalba z roku 1970, které vyšlo v Abbey Road a jehož autory jsou Nick Davis (Phil Collins/Genesis) a Miles Showell.
